Our Instructional Approach

Our elementary school provides standards-based instruction designed to develop strong academic foundations while meeting the diverse needs of all learners. Through research-informed curricula, personalized learning opportunities, and ongoing assessment, students build the skills necessary for success in school and beyond.

English Language Arts

Foundational Reading Skills (Grades K–2)

Students in kindergarten through second grade receive explicit instruction in foundational reading skills using UFLI Foundations. This program supports the development of phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, encoding, and reading fluency through systematic and structured instruction. UFLI Foundations is aligned with current reading research and supports our commitment to the Science of Reading.

Core Literacy Instruction (Grades K–5)

Our core literacy curriculum is Amplify CKLA (Core Knowledge Language Arts). CKLA combines foundational reading skills with knowledge-building experiences in literature, history, science, and the arts. Students develop reading, writing, speaking, listening, and vocabulary skills while building background knowledge across content areas.

Handwriting (PreK–Grade 2)

Students in preschool through second grade receive handwriting instruction through Handwriting Without Tears. This developmentally appropriate program supports handwriting, fine motor development, letter formation, and written communication skills.

Writing Instruction

Students develop written communication skills through Keys to Writing. Instruction focuses on the writing process, organization, grammar, sentence structure, revision, and composition across multiple genres. Writing instruction is integrated throughout the curriculum and supports learning across all content areas.

Mathematics

Our elementary mathematics program uses Ready Mathematics. Students engage in mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, conceptual understanding, and procedural fluency through standards-aligned lessons and real-world applications.

Personalized Learning

Students utilize i-Ready Reading and i-Ready Mathematics to support individual learning goals. These adaptive programs provide personalized instruction based on student performance and help teachers monitor progress and identify areas for additional support or enrichment.

Social Emotional Learning

Our school uses Sources of Strength, a nationally recognized Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) program that helps students build resilience, develop healthy relationships, and strengthen positive coping skills. Through engaging, age-appropriate lessons, students learn to identify their strengths, support one another, and contribute to a caring school community.
